With
over 540 recorded species, and the majority residents, the Soutpansberg
Mountains makes for an all year round birders paradise.
Black
Eagles nest in sight of the lodge, whilst other raptors such as
Bateleurs, Buzzards and Giant Eagle Owls sore above.
Black-fronted
Bush-Shrike, Blue-spotted Wood-Dove, Golden-backed Pytelia, Cape
Vulture, 2 subspecies of Peregrine Falcon, Black Stork and the Bat
Hawk, all on South Africa's Red Data bird species list, occur in
the area.
Lesser
found species tend to be easier to see in this area, these include
the Pink-throated Twinspot, Blue-mantled Crested Flycatcher, Narina
Trogon, Purple-crested Lourie and flocks of exquisite Crested Guineafowl.
