The Venda village tour can be related to township tours that are very popular from most of South Africa’s major cities, however in this case it takes place in a rural environment. It gives one the opportunity, in most cases, to get an truly authentic cultural experience.
The small Venda village of Khavambe is nestled in a valley of the scenic Soutpansberg Mountains and virtually on the border of our reserve. Nothing is staged and we can’t even tell you what you might see as you will experience life in the village on that day.
Our Venda Village Tour takes about 2 1/2 hours and leaves from Mashovhela Lodge.

Venda Crafts
The Venda culture is steeped in the spirit world and finds expression in their arts and crafts. Being highly creative people the Venda people produce many fascinating works and many of the craftsmen being well known worldwide.
Venda Bead Work
Khavambe Village produces some stunning accessories from beads, that all of some cultural meaning to them. These items can be purchased from the craftsman themselves and the basic art of beadwork can be explained.

African Beer Making and Tasting
The brewing of traditional beer is a common practice among Africans in rural areas and this Venda village is no exception.
The local brew master will explain the process involved in creating his brew and will give you the opportunity to taste his perfect creation, which is appreciated by all the men of the village.

The Venda People
The Venda are well known for their friendliness and welcoming nature. A number of people from the village are employed at Mashovhela Lodge and there is great working relationship between the village and the lodge.
